Sarah Wiemeyer, MA, MT-BC

Sarah Wiemeyer is a board certified music therapist and a nationally certified counselor. She received her bachelor's degree in music therapy at the University of Evansville in 2000. She received her Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling at the Illinois School for Professional Psychology/Argosy University in 2006. She has worked with a variety of client populations that include children and adults with developmental disabilities, children and adults with mental illnesses, and older adults with dementia throughout a wide variety of clinical environments.

Sarah is a professional member of the American Music Therapy Association. She has presented at the American Music Therapy Association's national conferences three times on the topics of the music therapy environment for children with autism, music therapy within the special education classroom and music therapy versus music education. She has also presented at various other conferences that include the Great Lakes Music Therapy conference and the Illinois Rett's Syndrome Association. She has provided in-service trainings to a variety of organizations using music to facilitate the topics of discussion. She has guest lectured at universities on the topic of music therapy. She has appeared on a TV program describing music therapy work with autism. Currently, she is in the process of developing an assessment tool that will identify the appropriate level of service for people with developmental disabilities interested in learning music.

In addition, Sarah has had experience in developing music therapy programming and in supervising and managing music therapy departments. She has developed a music therapy internship program in the state of Illinois and acted as Internship Director.
